How to manage the companies of an organization, with their tax numbers, bank details and fiscal calendar.
A legal entity is a company inside an organization that issues invoices and keeps its own books. Every organization has one default legal entity. Documents and ledger entries without an explicit entity belong to the default. The page lives under Workspace, Finance, Legal entities.
| Route | Purpose |
|---|---|
/{orgSlug}/legal-entities | Lists the legal entities. Needs legalEntity.read. |
GET /api/v1/organizations/{organizationId}/legal-entities | Lists legal entities. |
POST /api/v1/organizations/{organizationId}/legal-entities | Creates a legal entity. Needs legalEntity.manage. |
PATCH /api/v1/organizations/{organizationId}/legal-entities/{legalEntityId} | Changes the fields in the payload. |
POST .../{legalEntityId}/default | Makes an active entity the default. |
POST .../{legalEntityId}/archive and POST .../{legalEntityId}/restore | Archives or restores an entity. |
Each legal entity has a unique code, a name, an address, a VAT number, a company registration number, an IBAN and BIC, a default currency, the month its fiscal year starts and the period of its VAT returns.
The first legal entity of an organization becomes the default. Another active entity can be made the default, and the previous default stops being it. The default cannot be archived. An archived entity stays on historic documents and is hidden from new work.
legalEntity.read lists and opens legal entities. legalEntity.manage creates, changes, archives and chooses the default.
