How to manage tax codes with dated rates, margin scheme and reverse charge types, and the tax return boxes they feed.
A tax code tells an invoice line which tax treatment applies. The page lives under Workspace, Finance, Tax codes. Invoices compute their tax from the rate that was valid on the document date, so changing a rate never alters an issued invoice.
| Route | Purpose |
|---|---|
/{orgSlug}/tax-codes | Lists tax codes with their dated rates. Needs tax.read. |
GET /api/v1/organizations/{organizationId}/tax-codes | Lists tax codes. |
POST /api/v1/organizations/{organizationId}/tax-codes | Creates a tax code. Needs tax.manage. |
PATCH /api/v1/organizations/{organizationId}/tax-codes/{taxCodeId} | Changes a tax code, or archives and restores it. |
POST /api/v1/organizations/{organizationId}/tax-codes/{taxCodeId}/rates | Adds a dated rate. |
Sales, purchase and margin codes charge a rate. Exempt, zero, reverse charge, intra-EU goods, intra-EU services and export codes always count as 0 percent. A margin code taxes the margin between the unit price and the unit cost, and the document then shows no tax amount.
A code keeps the history of its rates. Adding a rate that starts after the current one ends the current one on the day before. When no start date is given, a new code starts at the beginning of time and a new rate starts today.
A code lists the boxes of the tax return that its base and tax amounts appear in. Preparing a return sums the invoices per box.
tax.read lists tax codes. tax.manage creates and changes codes and rates.
